Volunteers

The Women’s Legal Centre relies heavily on the assistance given by volunteers. The Centre is a small community legal centre with very limited resources. Volunteers work at the Centre each week in a range of different ways. The assistance given to the Centre by volunteers increases the service the Centre is able to offer to the community. The Women’s Legal Centre appreciates the assistance it receives from volunteers.

The Centre has volunteers assisting in a number of ways:

Volunteer Solicitors
Volunteer Students
Volunteer Management Committee

Each year approximately 250 extra women are helped with their legal matter by being able to access a volunteer solicitor at the Centre. This assistance is generally by way of a face to face booked appointment. These appointments take place at the Centre and are either on a Tuesday evening or Friday morning.

The Centre relies heavily on volunteer students to help with the day to day operations of the Centre. The Centre is able to undertake more community legal education and law reform activities because of the assistance given by volunteer students.

The management committee plays a vital role in the governance of the Centre. The Centre relies entirely on volunteers who make up the management committee and guide the Centre in its work.
